WHAT: A video based on GIF dataset research 

 

WHEN: 2018

Responding to a brief to research domestic space using a dataset, I compiled an archive of GIFs based on keyword searches such as HOME, KITCHEN, BATHROOM etc. and began to understand patterns of behaviour and emotions in the domestic space and their depiction in popular culture. GIFs revealed a representation of the home that does not emphasise efficiency, countering ideas of the smart home which tends to dominate contemporary design discourse. The video reveals genuine and playful ways people use and relate to their domestic spaces.
